Updated to reflect new economic realities, Nanyang MSc Financial Engineering (MFE) is an internationally-renowned programme, recognised for its multi-disciplinary approach. Offered in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University, USA, the programme is designed for individuals focused on penetrating the top tiers of the finance industry.

MFE offers combined expertise of the Nanyang Business School with the School of Physical & Mathematical Sciences in NTU, provides a broad-based learning in high technology finance, combining the technical and conceptual advances in Computer Science, Mathematics and Finance.

The programme challenges and builds the intellect while at the same time prepares participants for practical use of advanced financial techniques in the industry. Moreover, our collaboration with CMU brings financial practices of the East and West live to the classrooms.

Graduates of this programme can look forward to taking on very challenging careers in the areas of risk management, quantitative asset management, product structuring, quantitative trading, quantitative research, financial information technology as well as other areas in high-technology finance.

PROGRAMME
COURSES

Participants complete 20 core courses and 4 elective courses over 3 course groups: Financial Mathematics & Statistics, Finance and Computing. Preparatory courses in Math, Finance and Computing are also offered before the start of each academic year. The Math Preparatory Course is compulsory for all incoming students and commences end of June.

PROGRAMME
STRUCTURE

The curriculum will be taught over 3 trimesters in the full-time programme. Each trimester is divided into 2 mini-terms consisting of 7 weeks each. Students will spend the first 5 mini terms at Nanyang Business School, Singapore, followed by a final term at Carnegie Mellon University, USA (CMU).

  • Associate Professor

    Charlie Charoenwong

    Academic Director
    Division of Banking & Finance


    Assoc Prof Charoenwong holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Chulalongkorn University and an MBA and a PhD in Finance from the University of Memphis. He taught for several years at both his alma mater. His publications appear in international refereed journals such as Journal of Banking and Finance, Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, and Advances in Pacific Basic Financial Markets.

    Nilanjan Sen

    Associate Dean (Graduate Studies)

    In addition to his title at Nanyang Business School, Dr Sen holds an adjunct Associate Professor position at Lorange Institute, Zurich. Dr Sen has published extensively in academic as well as practitioner journals and currently teaches corporate and international finance. He has presented in several international conferences and presently works in the area of corporate governance and international dividend policy.

    Cheong Siew Ann

    Assoc Prof Cheong Siew Ann joined the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences in August 2007. He received his M.Sc. from the National University of Singapore and Cornell University, and his Ph.D. from Cornell University. His area of expertise is in Complex System, and is Deputy Director of the NTU Complexity Institute. He is especially interested in applying ideas and methods from physics to understanding various markets.
